Opening of new tech space will offer roles dedicated to developing innovative banking solutions

TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2015 /CNW/ – TD Bank Group (TD) is expanding its operations in Waterloo region creating more than 120 jobs over the next year dedicated to technology innovation.

“TD is committed to building an innovation ecosystem that allows us to bring best-in-class digital experiences to our customers,” said Teri Currie, Group Head Direct Channels, Technology, Marketing and People Strategies at TD. “Establishing a deeper footprint in this innovation hub allows us to draw from the region’s specialized talent pool and groundbreaking developments in technology as we grow our digital offerings.”

Building on TD’s established presence in the region, through its business banking and retail operations, in 2014 TD signed on with Communitech – a leading technology and innovation hub – to set up TD Lab, a start-up approach to drive improved customer experiences through technology. The partnership also entails supporting some of Communitech’s programs for local start-ups and women in technology.

This new office is a further extension of how TD is embracing and fostering innovation within the Bank. Employees take part in ongoing ideation challenges that encourage them to think differently about consumer needs which TD can conceptualize to market.  To date, the Bank has captured close to 10,000 ideas, which has helped shape its digital roadmap from the people who know our customers best.

“As we build on existing partnerships and investments, TD is also looking at ways it appeals to top talent with the aim of furthering technological breakthroughs that make banking easier, faster and more intuitive,” added Currie.

Employees at the TD Waterloo region office will provide information technology and software engineering capabilities. The new office is located at 55 Columbia Street East.
