TD Celebrates National Volunteer Week

Each year in April, we dedicate one week to celebrating the incredible volunteer efforts of TD employees – but every single day we couldn’t be more proud. From cleaning up public spaces to welcoming refugees to providing meals for the less fortunate, these volunteers truly show us that one hour of your time can mean a world of change for someone else. On behalf of everyone at TD: thank you.

Here are some of the ways our TD Volunteers are making a difference:

Christine shares simple yet sage advice: everyone has something to give.

“People say they don’t have time to volunteer – but giving back to your community can take as little as 20 minutes. Everyone has something to give, and something to build within the community itself. This year I am volunteering through the United Way of Cambridge and North Dumfries supporting the Meals on Wheels Kitchen in Breslau. Meals on Wheels not only provides hot meals and nutrition, but volunteers just like me provide friendship and in some cases are the only personal interaction recipients of the program receive in days. ”

– Christine E. Andrews, Customer Relations Coordinator, TD Canada Trust

What you get from volunteering is more than you give.

“TD is a company that encourages its employees to grow and explore the things that they love. I cannot stress how amazing the Volunteer Ambassador program at TD is.  Volunteering has shaped me in ways I cannot even begin to describe. The situations and people I come across have all taught me lessons and universal skills that I will always carry with me. I volunteer to learn from others, to educate myself on all that is going on around me, and most importantly to connect with people. There is a world of knowledge and experience out there – every time I volunteer my time, I grow.

I will be visiting Mountain View Elementary on April 16th to help out, serve food, and most importantly, welcome refugees. I really hope that I make an impact on even one of the individuals, whether it’s that they made a new friend or even just someone to talk to for the day. My main goal is to ensure that everyone feels safe, welcomed, and that they leave with a sense that their options and resources are not limited. ”

To really strengthen a community, start by helping the people a part of it.

“My name is Joey Calandrino and I am a Customer Service Representative at TD Canada Trust. I began my journey with TD in October 2015, and I have the dual honour and pleasure of being a Volunteer Ambassador.

To me, volunteering is such an amazing and rewarding activity. It’s an activity that builds and strengthens communities, is great for one’s mind and body, and allows everyone to learn new skills while having fun and helping others.

My challenge to everyone is to volunteer for at least one event through TD Volunteer Network in 2016. I can promise that you will meet amazing individuals, you will learn new skills, and you’ll have a fantastic time – all while benefiting and making a difference to your respective local communities. ”
