Department Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Translation Services, the main focus of this role is to provide terminology support from English to French to TD’s translation vendors and, to a lesser degree, to the internal team. The terminology enquiries pertain to documents from all Business Units across the organization.

Job Description

  • Respond to inquiries from our translation vendors by conducting terminological research, and confirming or correcting their suggestions of French equivalents, or by providing equivalents
  • Work closely with vendors to deliver projects per established timelines
  • Communicate with subject matter experts and translation requestors
  • Provide terminology support to translators, team leaders and vendors
  • Manage and maintain the department’s terminology database (create, update, clean and merge term records)
  • Act as a corporate resource for questions related to terminology
  • Develop and maintain excellent business relationships with external vendors, partners and colleagues
  • Occasionally act as a terminology mentor for the integration of new employees within the Department
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned from time to time by Management

Requirements

  • University degree in Translation from English to French with an emphasis on terminology
  • 3-5 years experience in a structured Translation Department
  • Terminology experience in the financial sector, banking in particular, an asset
  • Complete fluency in French and English (written and spoken)
  • Excellent research organizational skills
  • Works to create a sense of teamwork, openness and communication
  • Computer skills (MS Office, translation project management system, term databases, Web search functions and methods, and other relevant tools)
  • Intellectual curiosity and excellent judgment
