Department Overview
In attaining this client commitment, TDAM has built one of Canada’s largest and most respected investment management and research teams with more than 220 Portfolio Managers, Associate Portfolio Managers, Traders and Analysts.
The Retail Product Development and Research team within TD Asset Management is responsible for the product strategy and development of TD’s entire retail product portfolio as well as market research. The team’s mandate is as follows:
- Develop a solid understanding of markets, competitors, product and regulatory trends, advisor and client needs to effectively inform decisions and drive new product concepts
- Synthesize data on emerging medium- and long-term product development trends to inform the long-term product roadmap
- Develop products for various distribution channels to profitably grow market share
Job Details
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop an understanding of TDAM’s general investment philosophy and investment styles, and retail investment products (i.e., mutual funds, ETFs, SMAs)
- Support the team and take leadership in synthesizing product, competitive and industry research and analysis into meaningful recommendations to promote the development of new product concepts or to support the Product Management, Client Portfolio Management (CPM) and Distribution teams
- Support the team in the product development process (i.e., assessment of new investment ideas, product design, business cases, product briefs, presentations)
- Develop an understanding of the needs of retail clients and advisors as well as the nuances between different Distribution (sales) channels
- Work towards a cooperative environment with a team-first mentality
Key Interactions:
The following interactions constitute an integral part of this position:
- Direct report to the Vice President & Director, Retail Product Development and Research
- Support all members of the Retail Product Development and Research team
- Collaborate closely with the Product Management and CPM teams
- Develop relationships with other investment professionals across TDAM including the Distribution (sales), Portfolio Management, Sales Enablement, Marketing, Legal and Compliance teams

Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 to 4 years of related industry experience with ideally some direct experience in a product role (i.e., product development, product research or product management)
- Knowledge of retail investment products (Mutual Funds & ETFs) is an asset
- Knowledge of major investment strategies/styles employed by fixed income and equity portfolio managers is an asset
- Knowledge of alternative investment strategies is an asset
- Knowledge of regulatory/compliance environment for retail investment products is an asset
- High-level of curiosity to conduct in-depth market research
- Ability to synthesize market research into compelling written insights
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and operate in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of Morningstar Direct and Simfund is an asset
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office required, primarily Excel and PowerPoint
- Undergraduate degree in a related field required
- CFA Charterholder (completion, or in progress, or willingness to pursue) required
- CAIA Charterholder nice to have
- Graduate degree (M.Sc./MBA) nice to have
